Great points, Jon. I had never thought about the "genetic code" point the book brings out. It's absolutely true, though.

I think private-insurance will--and should--always be available to those that want to pay extra to have a lower deductible, faster procedures, etc. But I agree we need some form of single-payer system. Managing it at a local level is a good idea, but tricky--is it being funded at a local level too? Are there certain federal regulations? Could a state ban abortions being formed in their single-payer? Though if we were actually asking these questions, that means we've made significant progress already.
